Story of an Identity

Something I found in my old blog account.
Blog post for our Social Computing Class that talks about Identity.

Identity has been defined as people’s concepts of who they are, what they are, and how they are to other people. Moreover, it refers to the ways in which individuals and collectivities are distinguished in their social relations with other individuals and collectivities (Confusing right?? That’s because it’s from Wikipedia, Hahaha). Anyway, It is clear that there are many ways to define identity. It depends on how people perceive what identity is. In your own words, what is identity to you?

Identity is similar to a Developing Character of a story. As the story begins different Characters are being introduced to the readers. You are either the Protagonist or Antagonist. In other words, the IMe, and You are the characters of our own STORY. Like any stories out there, Characters are being developed as time progress. We change our preferences, likes, dislikes, etc. to establish ourselves as an unique individual. It enables us to expose our identity to the real world and allows us to connect with other people.

Our Idendity can either be a protagonist or an antagonist.

People perceives us depending on how we act around them. How people react to our behavior and actions thru conversation and sharing is also known as “social exchange”. This shows people who and what we are made of.

What is important is that we know who we are, what we are, and how we are to other people. Each one of us has a unique Identity. Do not let other people define who you are. We are the developing characters. Our STORY is still being written. It depends on each opne of us how we want our story ends.
